National Capital Region — Topping one million visits since opening on December 31, this season of the Rideau Canal Skateway has been nothing short of remarkable. After 56 unforgettable days on the ice, the Rideau Canal Skateway will officially end its 56th season tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4, at 10 pm.
All winter long, our maintenance crews and contractors rose to every challenge. Through overnight shifts and harsh weather, they kept the ice pristine, ensuring skaters enjoyed some of the best conditions this season.
Our sincere thanks go to the skaters, walkers, vendors, staff, and partners who bring the Rideau Canal Skateway to life each year. With the support of Access Storage (Cubeit), our official storage provider, your passion is what keeps this iconic winter tradition thriving in the National Capital.
As the blades come off and the snow begins to melt, the National Capital Commission (NCC) is already shifting into summer mode, gearing up for a fresh lineup of new and returning activities across the Ottawa - Gatineau region. Stay tuned: an exciting season of warm-weather fun is just around the corner!
