National Capital Region — This summer, the National Capital Commission (NCC) invites residents and visitors to experience cottage vibes without the drive, rediscovering the Capital Region’s remarkable waterfronts close to home.
With more than one million visits recorded last summer at flagship NCC waterfront sites, interest in these shared public spaces continues to grow. Canadians are looking for welcoming, vibrant places to connect with nature, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the outdoors.
In response, the NCC is enhancing access to its shorelines and expanding the range of experiences available along the water. These efforts reflect our commitment to stewarding the Capital’s natural assets while ensuring they remain accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for all.
“The Capital’s waterfronts are among our most cherished public spaces. This summer, we are making it easier for people to enjoy these places in new ways, offering cottage vibes without the drive, right here in the heart of the region.” - Tobi Nussbaum, Chief Executive Officer of the NCC
Whether swimming, walking, cycling, rolling, paddling or relaxing by the water, there is something for everyone along the Capital’s waterfronts. Popular destinations, including the NCC River House, Westboro Beach, NCC bistros and scenic patios, will return this season, along with the Dow’s Lake recreational dock and the return of Dominion City and Gburger to offer food and drinks at Commissioner’s Park.
Building on this momentum, the NCC will also introduce two new swimming docks— one on the Quebec side behind the Canadian Museum of History and another on the Ontario side, attached to the East Wharf platform near the canal locks, further expanding safe, accessible and inviting opportunities for the public to connect with the water.
Follow the NCC on social media for updates on openings and seasonal programming, and visit the NCC website for maps, featured experiences and planning information.
