Monique Beaudoin is an activist and ardent advocate for persons with disabilities. She was born with a visual disability, and her advocacy to obtain better services and improve living conditions for persons with disabilities began at an early age. She was the executive director of the Regroupement des associations de personnes handicapées de l’Outaouais from 2006 to 2020. Her life and career have been dedicated to raising awareness and creating positive change in the lives of persons with disabilities. Her areas of involvement include housing, employment, health, universal accessibility including in the area of municipal infrastructure, access to information and websites, and removing barriers to accessibility in public transit. Monique has presented at conferences and provided training on integrating persons with disabilities in the workplace, in schools and in tourist establishments. She has authored numerous studies, articles and integration analyses. She has also been involved in many organizations and committees, including committees that connect users of health and social services. In addition, she has served on various boards of directors, including the Regroupement des aveugles et amblyopes du Québec and the Association des personnes handicapées visuelles de l’Outaouais, as well as the Ville de Gatineau’s universal accessibility committee from 2008 to 2017. In February 2015, the newspaper Le Droit chose Monique as their person of the week and featured an article applauding her many accomplishments. In 2020, she was also a finalist in À part entière’s “individual category,” an award that recognizes individuals and organizations working to increase the participation of people with disabilities in society. In 2023, she received the “tribute to seniors award” from Hommage aux ainés, presented by the Table de concertation regional des ainés de l’Outaouais. Monique holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations from the Université du Québec à Hull.
