The Ottawa River is a landmark of the National Capital Region. In its mission to improve public access to the shorelines, the NCC is installing a recreational platform by the water along the Ottawa River Pathway, near Rideau Canal locks 1 to 8.

About the project

A multi-level wooden platform will invite the public to lounge while taking in the views and sunsets of Ottawa-Gatineau.

Scope

This project will feature:

  • A multi-level wood platform with seating options and bicycle racks
  • A renovated multi-use pathway
  • Enhanced shoreline protection
  • Additional planting

Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-June 2025 and continue until spring 2026.

Impact

Impact on the local environment: The dock will be built while the Ottawa River water levels are low to limit the impact on local ecosystems. This project involves collaboration with Parks Canada and follows a low-impact installation plan.
